Corporate Overview
MultiChoice’s purpose is using the power of entertainment to enrich lives. Part of this is shaping and celebrating local content amidst the prevalent, imported American programming that has dominated the television scene in the past, where MultiChoice’s most popular channel, Mzansi Magic, gives local producers like Phatu Makwavela, a platform to tell authentic South African stories that are representative of our country and it’s people.
Growing such local talent is another focal area for MultiChoice, developing a new generation of artists through the MultiChoice ‘Magic in Motion Academy’ by bridging the gap between film school and real industry experience. This comprehensive internship programme has enabled young filmmaker Aluta Qupa to launch her own production company and to become part of a new spate of television producers hoping to inspire the
next generation of South African children with her content.
But transformation at MultiChoice goes beyond broadcasting. The company employs over eight thousand people, 87% of whom are black, and more than half of whom are women. It also actively pursues a strategy of local decoder production, creating jobs and developing enterprises through the design, engineering, manufacturing and installation value chain.
