Transnet, South Africa’s state-owned transport and logistics company, is making a difference by investing in programs that empower individuals and small businesses and contribute to the healthcare sector. Their engineering development program funds students to study engineering, who later join Transnet as engineers in training. Participants like Therese Quobela, inspired to work in a historically male-dominated field, urge others to work hard and never lose sight of their dreams.

Transnet also runs the Phelophepa Train, a CSR initiative providing healthcare services to marginalized communities. The train, operating for nearly 30 years, has reached 15 million patients. It offers medical students invaluable practical learning experiences during its nine-month journey nationwide.

To support small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs), which account for 90% of businesses in South Africa, Transnet has developed the Godisa Enterprise Development Fund (EDF). This initiative provides financial assistance to suppliers within the Transnet system, like VHN Engineering and Projects. The Godisa EDF enabled VHN to purchase machines and effectively service a large order, putting their business on the map.

Transnet recognizes its responsibility as a state-owned entity to develop skills, empower individuals and small businesses, and contribute to society. The company’s innovative programs and initiatives showcase its commitment to making a positive impact in South Africa.
